Perfect Day Trip to Letchworth and Beyond

Let’s dive into this one-day itinerary for Letchworth and Beyond! This is the perfect itinerary if you are taking a day trip to Letchworth or are staying in the region and only have one full day to explore Wyoming County.

Start Your Morning in Perry

Begin your day exploring the charming town of Perry. Up first is coffee and a light bite at Country Belle Farm Market.

Country Belle Farm Market is a farm store selling local products, fresh flowers, made-to-order coffee drinks, and fresh pastries. I highly recommend grabbing one of their specialty lattes and a cinnamon bun to enjoy at one of their bistro tables outside.

After grabbing coffee, take some time strolling along Main Street in Perry. Main Street is lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes. It is a great spot to start your day.

If you love a charming small town, Perry will not disappoint. This small main street has various cute shops to browse. Don’t miss Act 4 Books, a fantastic bookstore, and Bush Hill Florist, selling everything from flowers to home goods.

Downtown Perry, New York – Colorful historic Main Street buildings including the Arts Council for Wyoming County, boutique shops, and farm market, capturing the small-town charm of Wyoming County near Letchworth.

Lunch & Classic Fun at Charcoal Corral

The Charcoal Corral is a local favorite! Here you can enjoy some old-fashioned fun with miniature golf, an arcade, and a drive-in movie theater.

One of the major draws to the Charcoal Corral is the western theme. This theme is evident in fun photo ops, the mini golf course, and the dining area.

I highly recommend trying your hand at the 18-hole Miniature Golf course. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at the Charcoal Grill. There are plenty of options on the menu, making this the perfect place to refuel before heading to Letchworth State Park.

Explore Letchworth State Park

The majority of this day trip will be spent exploring Letchworth State Park. Truly, no trip to this region is complete without visiting Letchworth.

Letchworth State Park has so much to offer. This New York State Park is home to so many incredible waterfalls, viewpoints, and hiking trails. While there is so much to see and do in Letchworth, don’t miss these highlights on a day trip:

Visit the Humphrey Nature Center

If you’re interested in learning more about the geology, wildlife, and botany at Letchworth, a stop at the Humphrey Nature Center is a must. This is a great place to learn about what makes Letchworth such a unique park.

Outside the center, you’ll find a butterfly garden, birding station, and several connecting trails that lead to peaceful overlooks.

On my most recent visit to Letchworth, it was my first time visiting the Humphrey Nature Center. I wish I had visited sooner, as it answered so many of my questions about the park.

Walk the Autism Nature Trail

One of the most unique experiences in Letchworth State Park is the Autism Nature Trail (ANT). This mile-long loop trail is designed specifically to be inclusive and accessible for visitors of all ages and abilities.

After experiencing this trail for myself, I would highly recommend the Autism Nature Trail for all visitors.

This trail is beautiful, peaceful, and so much fun! I was delighted by the beauty of this trail and its interactive stations.

Along the trail are eight sensory stations, each created to engage different senses, including interactive zones and quiet areas to connect with nature.

What I love about this trail is that it allows you to engage with and appreciate nature in new ways.

Scenic Overlooks + Waterfalls in Letchworth

Spend the rest of your time in Letchworth enjoying the beautiful views and waterfalls that Letchworth State Park is known for

The Genesee River cuts through the park, creating a gorge with cliffs that soar up to 600 feet high and features three major waterfalls – Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls.

One of the best ways to experience Letchworth is with a scenic drive along Park Road. The road follows the gorge and is lined with numerous overlooks where you can stop and admire the views.

Many of the most iconic vistas are just a short walk from the parking areas, meaning you can see the best views even on a jam-packed day trip to the region.

Don’t miss: Middle Falls, Upper Falls, Inspiration Point, and Great Bend Overlook.

Stop for Dinner and a Treat

After an afternoon of exploring Letchworth State Park, you’ve likely worked up an appetite. En route home, stop for dinner and a sweet treat.

We opted to stop at Pizanos in Warsaw for a specialty pizza. The pizza was delicious, and we enjoyed the casual atmosphere after a busy day in the park.

After our meal, we headed to nearby Yummie’s Ice Cream for a handcrafted hard ice cream. There were so many fun seasonal flavors to choose from, and it is one of the best ice creams I’ve had in New York State!
